Total wood-based panel production in EPF countries fell by 6.3% in 2023 compared to 2022. 2023 was a year characterised by a sharp drop in the first half (-12%) which slowed to just -3% in the second half. Softening user demand and low consumer confidence affected construction, furniture, packaging and other markets in Europe, albeit wood-based panel producers gained market share in the main segments during 2023.
The outlook 2024 remains muted, but with healthy long-term prospects for the natural, sustainable, climate positive wood-based panel industry.
