About 38% of total European wood-based panels go into construction, making it our second largest end user segment. The construction ecosystem accounts for 9% of EU GDP and provides 18 million direct jobs. It is therefore essential that ‘the EU taxonomy helps the construction sector and all its companies in their transition to a more sustainable and climate-friendly business models’. The idea behind taxonomy is a good and relevant one, but it needs to be properly executed.
What we mainly call for:
- A revision by the Commission and the co-legislators of the current draft, ensuring the usability of the Environmental Delegated Act criteria, based on realistic and transparent thresholds
- The involvement of the construction sector as a provider of technical expertise when criteria for the sector are reviewed or drafted
