The 2019 Annual General Meeting of the European Panel Federation, opened on 26 June in Dunblane (Scotland), kindly hosted by EPF, WPIF and Fedustria member company Norbord. EPF was proud to welcome approximately 150 participants from all over Europe plus guests from North America.
During the General Assembly on 27 June, EPF presented its members with an update on its core projects: E1 Compulsory, New Standard, Image/Cascade of Wood, Construction, Africa, Communications, Certification, Biomass, and EU Federations. EPF and its members also discussed ways to further promote wood-based panels, especially in the furniture, construction and packaging industries in Europe.
During the GA, Dr Paolo Fantoni (Fantoni) was unanimously re-elected as Chairman for his third term from 2019-2021. Mr Bernard Thiers (Unilin) remains Vice-Chairman. EPF further expressed its gratitude to Mr Guillermo Hernanz (Garnica Plywood) who stepped down as Managing Board member and welcomed Mr Mārtiņš Lācis (Latvijas Finieris) as his successor and the new Plywood Product Group Chairman.
On 28 June, EPF invited its regular and associate members plus collaborating institutes and the trade press to the AGM Open Day. During this, EPF presented the consolidated 2018 production statistics for European wood-based panels. EPF was pleased to record an overall increase in 2018 of 1.7% to a level of 59.3 million m³. Closing the AGM, EPF welcomed Mr Stephen Kerr, MP for Stirling, who gave a stimulating presentation on ‘Energy, wood availability, and the future relationship between the UK and the EU’.
